As the Antigua Yacht Charter Show draws to a close today, The Superyacht Cup Antigua opens for registration. Familiar faces arrive from various countries, glad to escape the northern hemisphere winter for the blue skies and bright Caribbean sun.
Crew onboard Timoneer and Kalikobass II were busy preparing the yachts for racing and headed out today to practice. Both yachts took part in last years Superyacht Cup in Antigua and will be well experienced with the windy conditions expected. Today’s fresh 18 – 20 knot breeze and gusty rain showers will give them plenty of action. Signe, Wild Horses and Tenacious will take their places in Nelson’s Dockyard to make up the fleet of 5 yachts.
Unfortunately well out at sea, conditions are still not helping Sojana’s attempts to make the regatta. Initially blasted by strong headwinds she has now experienced light winds and carrying little fuel, their progress has slowed. Likewise, Paula Rosa has been hindered and now unlikely to make it in time.
All the participants, sponsors and guests will tonight gather for the welcome cocktail party, held in the gardens of a beautiful private house on the edge of English Harbour. The first race will start at approximately 12.00 local time tomorrow.
