NEW DATES FOR SUPERYACHT CUP PALMA
New IRC class for performance superyachts
The provisional dates for The Superyacht Cup Palma 2008 announced in the latest copy of the SYC Newsletter have now been brought forward by one week to June 11 - 14th. The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, in conjunction with Boat International magazine, have announced a second regatta from June 23rd to 26th and the two organisers have agreed that for yachts wishing to do both events a longer time gap was necessary.
A survey of owners and captains after the hugely successful Palma 07 Superyacht Cup indicated a clear preference for holding The Superyacht Cup at the beginning of the Mediterranean season rather than in the previously traditional month of October. Another important change, also due to popular opinion, will be the incorporation of an IRC class for the performance orientated yachts. This creates an opportunity to develop a Superyacht Mediterranean circuit for the future – viz. the collaboration with the YCCS and Boat International event. In another demonstration of solidarity amongst all interested parties wishing to contribute, Yachting World will present a special trophy for the winner of the performance divisions of the combined events.
The Superyacht Cup Palma, which attracted 52 of the world's finest sailing yachts in June this year, has been running in Palma for 11 years. The 2nd Superyacht Cup in Antigua will be held December 12th - 15th and the first SYC Transatlantic Challenge will be starting in Antigua April 8th 2008. A busy calendar for superyachts!
