THE SUPERYACHT CUP ANNOUNCES NEW VENUE AND DATES FOR 2009
June 20th 2008
The Organisers of The Superyacht Cup have now confirmed that the popular Palma edition of the regatta will move to a new venue in the heart of Palma from 2009 and for the next three years at least.
The 2009 Superyacht Cup Palma will take place from 24-27th June at Muelle Viejo (also known as Pier 46), situated directly opposite the old town of Palma, close to the Cathedral. The dock provides berthing for up to 25 yachts and is just 5 minutes from the airport.

“We have been looking forward to securing this venue for some years” commented Patrick Whetter, SYC Event Director. “The Muelle Viejo dock could not be more central to Palma and has all the facilities we need including easy access to the famous old town, hotels and restaurants.”
Last week, 13 yachts competed at the Superyacht Cup at the Dique del Oeste, the same dock used for last year’s event where 52 yachts took part in the largest ever superyacht regatta.
“The 2007 event was quite unique” continued Whetter, “ The overwhelming feedback we received from owners was that June was the best time for the event in Palma as it ties in with many of the yachts arriving from the Caribbean and preparing for the summer season in the Mediterannean".
The 2009 Superyacht Cup Palma will follow a similar format to this year; a 4 day regatta with 3 days racing in the Bay of Palma. The regatta village on the dock will provide the ideal venue for the famous Superyacht Cup ‘dockside parties’ such as the Kiwi BBQ and Paella Party.
In the meantime, The Superyacht Cup Antigua will take place from 10-13th December 2008 in the historic Nelson's Dockyard to mark the beginning of the Caribbean season.
